On April 29, a critical vulnerability in the Linux kernel, tracked as CVE-2026-31431 and dubbed “Copy Fail,” was publicly disclosed.
In simple terms, “Copy Fail” is a low-level memory handling flaw: under specific conditions, the kernel may incorrectly copy data between memory areas, potentially allowing an attacker to access sensitive information or escalate privileges. As with many kernel vulnerabilities, the risk lies less in everyday usage than in the possibility of targeted exploitation on unpatched systems.
For all fmcloud.fm customers, there is no action required on your side. All servers were ‘patched’ immediately, by disabling the vulnerable component, ensuring continued security and stability of your environments.
This is also a good reminder of the importance of proactive infrastructure management. Keeping systems up to date, especially at the kernel level, is critical and is fully handled as part of the fmcloud.fm service.
